Panel Talk: Early Signs and Risk Factors in Specific Learning Disabilities
Prof. Dr. Macid Ayhan Melekoğlu, Chair of the Department of Educational Sciences, delivered a talk titled “Early Signs and Risk Factors in Specific Learning Disabilities” as part of the panel “Developmental Processes and Early Intervention in Specific Learning Disabilities”, held within the scope of the 4th Disability Studies Symposium: Specific Learning Disabilities Across the Lifespan, organized by the Department of Child Development, Faculty of Health Sciences, İstanbul Bilgi University, on June 6–7, 2026.
The symposium was attended by undergraduate and graduate students, professionals, academics, and representatives of non-governmental organizations from various fields, including child development and special education. In his talk, Prof. Melekoğlu provided information on the early signs of specific learning disabilities in various developmental areas, such as early literacy, pre-academic skills, motor skills, language, and communication skills. He also discussed the “recognize and intervene” approach for addressing these early signs.
